ABOUT PÁTZCUARO

Mansión Pátzcuaro is located in Patzcuaro, a beautiful colonial city, considered one of the most beautiful traditional villages of America, in Michoacan, Mexico.

Patzcuaro is the heart of the Lake District, one of the points that identify the state of Michoacan, as it was the main pre-Hispanic religious center, since its former inhabitants used to say that there was the gate of heaven where the gods descended.

Patzcuaro Municipality has a population of approximately 48,000 inhabitants, 4,840 of whom speak an indigenous language.

The Patzcuaro region and its surrounding towns, is not only history, culture, tradition, customs, fairs, dances, music, gastronomy, architecture, archeology, natural beauty and landscape diversity, it is also a center of craft production recognized worldwide.

Currently, more than 30 varieties of handicrafts, classified in different branches such as pottery, metalwork, wood, plant fibers and textiles, among others occurs. Most of these branches have their origin in pre-state era and today, many are still produced using ancient techniques.

The kitchen in the Patzcuaro region is varied. You may enjoy dishes like the famous whitefish, uchepos, the ash tamales and enchiladas placeras.

Also famous, are Tarascan soup, made with tortillas, cheese and tomato sauce, and Corundas, another variety of triangular tamales served with salsa and sour cream.

Sweets, chocolate stick metate, canned fruits, pinole, donuts, snow and natural fruit pulp, ates, guava rolls, caramel, and coconut candies.

FEBRUARY:
Carnival Party begin the pre- Ash Wednesday Sunday. For three days, you can see the traditional and colorful " bulls in the pan" of the different neighborhoods of the city dancing in the streets .
